 Fishing Dreams
In Honor of Jack Emmitt

Second Annual Fishing Dreams Through The Legends Of Fishing
Date: Sunday, October 9, 2016
Time: 7 AM - 1 PM

The Bass Pro Shops Fishing Dreams event offers a unique and special opportunity to approximately 50 pre-registered children with physical disabilities.

The participants for this program are recruited and chosen through leaders from our partner organizations of
Camp Barnabas  and the Southwest Center for Independent Living.

Early Sunday morning, participants and their families gather together along the shoreline of Bent Hook Creek Marina to begin their special day with a delicious breakfast catered by Big Cedar Lodge.  Afterwards, the children are given their very own rod and reel, tackle box with lures and accessories, a specially designed annual shirt to commemorate the day, and many other items including Bass Pro Shops logoed hats and cozies.  The youth are then paired with Bass Pro Shops professional anglers and drivers, and their photos professionally taken together. Everyone then proceeds to their vessels for the annual tribute launch ceremony in honor of Jack Emmitt and the memory of his love for the special anglers to whom he inculcated the joy of fishing to throughout the course of his life.  All children participating, regardless of their disability, have an exclusive fishing experience with assistance and support from their professional guides and some with additional aid from adaptive gear supplied by Fish Tales, one of our sponsor partner organizations.  The two hour fishing adventure by boat or pontoon on the waters of Table Rock Lake is a truly one of a kind opportunity and welcomed break from the children's daily challenges and normal routine of hospital visits and therapy; for one day each year, their main challenge and focus is to catch a fish and enjoy the great outdoors.  Upon returning, participants are shuttled to the Big Cedar Lodge Conference Center where they are treated to a Fish Fry Luncheon and Award Ceremony. During the ceremony, the children receive a keepsake in the form of a plaque that includes a mounted photo of themselves with their fishing mentors.

Besides creating positive exposure to youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy the sport of fishing and the recreation of the great outdoors, Fishing Dreams furthers its mission by increasing awareness of disabled children and their capabilities.
The goals that stem from Bass Pro Shops Conservation Department are also
promoted through the Fishing Dreams event within the advocacy for an appreciation of our wildlife and natural resources.
